Herman by Jack Ludkey
Mazes are a must. We have limited space in the gardens. Children can be challenging to understand. All children deserve parents, but not all parents deserve children. They are created unequal. Roughly, there are adults out there who believe they possess enough knowledge to impart to younger generations. On the other side of things are adults who have no idea what they are doing, and try to keep the children at arm’s length, maze’s length for manor houses. Warmth comes from those who show love, though they do not always need to say it. Actions speak louder. So trapping children in a maze until they are adults, that’s a choice. That is a choice. Is it a good one? No.
Rabbits have a similar personality to children. They hop on their hind legs, just like the average child. Like the average child, rabbits sleep with their eyes open. For many, having a pet is easier than having a child, because they do not evolve. An animal’s personality remains basically the same for the duration, it reaches a peak, and does not change from there. People who are afraid of genuine connection love animals. Tony Soprano loved the ducks in his swimming pool for a reason – he struggled to connect with other people in a healthy way. Spoiler alert – Tony Soprano, a fictional mob boss, struggled to navigate relationships.
Children can sense when they have been abandoned. They always have. Despite their youth, there are things children understand that adults often fail to – emotional intelligence can fade away. Enough isolation, enough distance, makes a person cold. Instead of raising children, they place them in winding terrains, give them hobbies to follow, and leave the children at such and such a place, rather than forming a meaningful bond. Some parents enjoy the distant stare, the ability to opt out of conversation.
Easter brings children and rabbits together. Are they friends or enemies? The candy indicates friendship, but what if it is a bribe? Rabbits surrender a little bit of themselves to preserve their way of being. Do rabbits require candy? No, they do not. Rabbits enjoy their legs, through their feet, and a rabbit’s foot is good luck for the rabbit insofar as that foot remains attached to the rabbit. When a rabbit messes with children, takes over the affection of their parents, that’s when the war begins. No amount of sugar-covered marshmallow peeps and chocolate eggs will fill that hole in the heart.
